Events industry stalwart Peter Rand 'hangs up his boots'
Events industry stalwart Peter Rand has announced his retirement after more than 37 years in the business. M&IT columnist Rand has spent the last four years as director of industry relations at Zibrant after selling his company RAND – the UK’s first venue finding service - to the agency in 2006. He will retire from Zibrant on 30 June.
Rand set up the venue finder in 1973, following management positions in the hotel industry, including general manager of a De Vere hotel. He was the founder president of the Meetings Industry Association and in 2002 he was awarded the MBE for Services to the Meetings Industry.
Rand said: "It has been a real privilege to be part of such a great industry. Running a hotel for De Vere was great fun but nothing can be better than facilitating successful meetings and events for clients around the world.
“Whilst I am sad to be hanging up my boots, I would like to thank everyone for the warmth of their friendship, particularly the great team at Zibrant. I could not have wished a better company to take over RAND. It is not surprising that four years on, so many of my team are still working in the company. Thank you to everyone."
Chris Parnham, managing director – operations, added: “RAND was a very important acquisition for Zibrant, and integrating its people and its values into Zibrant helped us to maintain a healthy balance between market-leading innovation, and well-grounded history and experience. Everyone at Zibrant wishes Peter well and thanks him for his considerable contribution to our development and that of the industry as a whole.”
