Industry charity Meeting Needs ships medical aid to India

26/04/2011

Conference and events industry charity Meetings Industry Meeting Needs has funded the shipping of another container of aid to India.

Working with Konnect9 Worldwide, a charity that specialises in providing aid to those in poverty, Meeting Needs provided a gift of £1,800 to pay for the shipping costs of a container of medical goods to rural medical camps and mobile clinics in Kerala and Andrha Pradesh. The gift funds the transportation costs of the container which contains goods of a much higher value. Konnect9 has shipped more than £2.25m worth of goods in the past 10 years, directing 385 tonnes of business surplus from landfill sites.

While India has halved the number of its people living below the poverty line in the last 20 years, around 350 million remain in poverty and struggle for enough food, let alone medical aid. Meeting Needs has supported Konnect9 Worldwide’s work previously.

Executive committee member Peter Rand, MBE, said: “We are delighted to assist Konnect9 Worldwide’s work to help these disadvantaged people. As with all of the projects we support, the assistance goes directly to the point of need.”
