The Metropolitan Police has asked for decisions to be made locally whether events should go ahead in London following rioting in areas across the capital.
Event organisers have been told to ask for advice locally and London promotional agency, London & Partners, has confirmed it is “communicating closely with all its partners”.
It said it did not know of any corporate events which had been cancelled today but added: "It is currently too early to anticipate the effect on the business tourism and major events industry but we are monitoring the situation and we will work with the industry to respond to specific issues as they arise.
“Past experience tells us that London recovers very quickly from such events and we will focus on recovery activity as soon as it is viable to do so."
However, the timing couldn’t be worse, with nearly 200 representatives from The National Olympic Committee (NOC) in the city to attend a seminar to discuss preparations for next year’s Games.
London & Partners confirmed the Chef de Missions seminar would still take place as planned. The visit includes a tour of the Olympic Park on Wednesday, while the NOC representatives will be accommodated at a Park Lane hotel.
Meanwhile, the Football Association has cancelled England's football friendly on Wednesday at Wembley following a meeting between FA officials and police concerning security arrangements. The decision followed the earlier postponement of League Cup matches involving West Ham, Charlton and Crystal Palace after police advice.
