Meetings Needs equips 100 South African youths in ‘Learn to Live’ training project

28/09/2011

Meetings Industry Meeting Needs (MIMN) has funded the provision of training materials for 100 vulnerable young people in Cape Town to learn new skills at the ‘Learn to Live’ bridging school.

Working through StreetSmart South Africa, a local charity chaired by Cape Town destination management company owner Margi Biggs, the £3000 donation provides wood, welding materials, leather and paint to allow teenagers from various shelters to learn new skills. StreetSmart also provides shelter for ‘streetwise’ children who have become separated from their families, tracing relatives and facilitating reunification for estranged children.

MIMN executive committee member Peter Rand MBE said: “StreetSmart South Africa does outstandingly effective work to take children off the streets in the Cape Town area and we are delighted to be able to help them again."
