Grass Roots' community concert has the winning spirit

11/10/2011

Grass Roots’ annual community charity concert, Spirit of Tring, has been named Corporate Communications Live Event of 2011 in the IVCA Clarion Awards, which recognise and reward corporate social responsibility.

The Spirit of Tring event, only in its second year, beat Lloyds Bank’s ‘Back to School’ event (produced by drpgroup) and the BP Enterprising Science Trading Challenge Roadshow (produced by EdComs).

Grass Roots Group also picked up an IVCA (International Visual Communication Association) Highly Commended Award in the ‘Live Event Charity and Social Enterprise’ category for The Big Bang 2011, a huge science, technology, engineering and maths fair for young people organised at the ExCeL in London.

Marco Forgione IVCA chief executive said: “Congratulations to Grass Roots for their excellent work and well deserved win. It demonstrates how seriously corporate social responsibility is being taken by the public and private sectors alike.”

David Evans MBE, global chairman of Grass Roots came up with the idea for Spirit of Tring to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Grass Roots foundation in 2010.

"Grass Roots has won a number of IVCA awards for its work for major clients," said Evans. "Picking up an externally judged award for the Spirit of Tring has a special importance in recognising work done with the community in which we work, and which has taken the event to its heart and really engaged with the purpose.”

Evans gave special thanks to Spirit of Tring event manager, Charlotte Moore-Moffatt, who he called his ‘Jim'll Fix It’.
