MCI Group will recruit in the region of 300 new members of
staff globally to help the business double in size within the next three years.
Patrick Delaney, vice-president DMC, MCI Dublin, said: “We
currently have around 1,500 staff and we will have the need for between 15-20
percent more if we are going to achieve the growth we’re looking for.”
MCI aims to consolidate its growth in the main geographies
in which it is already present, which covers all continents, with one exception being the USA.
Delaney added: “In order to have the pool of talent required
to sustain that growth we have decided to put an emphasis on talent retention
and sourcing new talent. We’ve teamed up with IMEX and MPI to launch a new
Future Leaders Forum programme, which we will be sponsoring. We will fund Future
Leader Forums in 14 different places around the world, including India and South America
this year, to help us find new staff.”
To aid talent retention the group is developing the ‘MCI Institute’,
providing educational professional development modules both physically and
online for existing staff.
“In terms of value proposition, and to differentiate one
company from the next, we believe it is not only price that plays a key role
but also the quality of staff. Therefore the professionalisation of our people
is a really important thing.”
MCI Group also hopes to professionalise its Ovation Global
DMC network by adopting the Association of Destination Management Executives
Standard.
“This is a qualification that’s been developed in the US,
which we hope to bring to the rest of the world and we will adopt internally,”
said Delaney.
