Former HSBC chief economist to open Summer Eventia

27/01/2012

Former chief economist for HSBC, Dennis Turner, is to kick-start this year’s Summer Eventia conference at King’s Place London with his keynote speech on 23 April.

Turner, who has been advising leading bankers on UK economic trends, will use the event as chance to address the current economic landscape and provide a detailed look at how it is impacting upon events and business tourism.

Simon Hughes, who leads the team designing the conference, said: “We passed on having an economic outlook keynote in Cardiff last year, but the feedback from our members certainly indicated that there was a real appetite out there for some insightful and expert economic advice as we face another challenging year.

"I'm delighted that Dennis will be providing the context for some of the really interesting themes and issues that we've been gathering through our membership surveys for debate and discussion at TSE12.”

Prior to joining Midland Bank in 1978, Turner worked at the National Economic Development Office in Whitehall for four years during the Labour government’s Industrial Strategy Initiative which sought to improve the performance of the manufacturing sector in the UK.
