16/02/2012

BBC Worldwide will hold the world’s largest single distributor international television market at Liverpool’s BT Convention Centre for the first time this month.

The four-day showcase, which is in its 36th year and normally held in Brighton, will welcome more than 640 international TV buyers and famous names including Sir Tom Stoppard, Hugh Bonneville, Emilia Fox, Ruth Jones, Jessica Hynes and Michael Palin.

New programmes such as 'Parade’s End', Attenborough’s 'Life Stories', 'Brazil with Michael Palin' and 'Sinbad' will be unveiled as buyers seek out the next international hit.

“We’ve had a phenomenal response to our first Showcase in Liverpool,” said Steve Macallister, president and managing director, sales and distribution, BBC Worldwide.  “With a  significant increase in delegates from America and Asia and many digital clients attending for the first time including Hulu, Netflix, Yota, Onet, CME and FetchTV Australia, we have exceeded our expectations and look forward to welcoming a record-breaking number of delegates to this iconic city.”

Macallister added: “We’ve doubled the amount of content available to screen at Showcase this year with more than 2,800 hours of outstanding shows. We’re proud to host this flagship event for British TV exports and bring together such an impressive delegation of international buyers.”
