Day delegate rates at conference and meeting venues across London are creeping
upwards – but at a snail’s pace, new research has found.
Venue finding portal The Event Wall found the average DDR
had risen from £51 to just over £53 in the last 15 months after studying a
sample of 1,400 proposals received from venues between July 2010 and October
2012.
Matthew Oliver, director of The Event Wall, said: “We are
seeing a slow but steady rise in venue rates as confidence builds. However the
recovery is still not keeping up with the rate of inflation showing that
published rates are being heavily discounted in order to win business and meet
the demands of cost conscious buyers.”
The data was collected from The Event Wall’s online proposal
system which allows clients to post a venue enquiry and then view, compare and
manage the proposals received.
Oliver added: “With the country officially entering a second
recession we are likely to see this steady increase maintain at best. 2012
rates have benefited from the Olympic effect, so it will be interesting to see
if 2013 brings any increases at all.”
