US events agency inVNT is expanding into London, claiming conventional UK agencies have become 'sleepy and stale'.

Dina Green, formerly head of live at Gyro and group events director at Barclays, will spearhead the initiative as managing director from new offices in Soho Square. She said: “I have genuinely been staggered by the quality and freshness of the inVNT offering together with their strength of vision. Over time, the UK market and creative agencies have become sleepy and stale, and we are excited to throw down the gauntlet to the older, conventional agencies.”

Green continued: "inVNT has bided it’s time to enter the UK market, recognising an increasingly lifeless and timid industry response to client needs from a nervous and complacent set of agencies. Having perfected and streamlined our fresh approach in the US, we are ready to bring what is clearly a successful strategy over there, over here. We want to shake up the industry and inject new ideas and talent that will allow the European events industry to truly challenge on the world stage."

inVNT was launched in 2008 and has offices in New York, Detroit, Jacksonville and Washington DC. Clients include Merck, News Corporation, PepsiCo, General Motors and Subway.

Scott Cullather, inVNT’s founder and managing partner, added: “We recognise that there remains an unmet need in the global marketplace for strategic, creative solutions that are compelling, disruptive and cut through the clutter. We are keen to boost inVNT’s momentum as an agency, and enhance our level of service to existing clients by having a strong talent base in London from which to expand our offering across Europe. We are also looking at other key strategic opportunities in Asia and Latin America.”

    Surprised and disappointed are words that spring to mind to see a fellow agency talk so disparagingly about the UK events industry. One thing I love about working in the UK events industry is that we are so supportive of each other, we encourage networking with each other and some of us even manage to work well with each other. In this time of austerity measures and recessions we should be sticking together not stereotyping and slinging insults at each other.

    Hats off to Padraic - he has hit the nail on the head several times. It's jargon heavy marketing speak which I'm sure will appeal to some, but be ridiculed by many more. Lots of big words for a four-year-old though!

    One way to get attention is to enter the party to a loud fanfare, be dressed garishly like a superhero, stand on a chair and stridently bark out sound bytes that proclaim your greatness over lesser mortals. But we lesser mortals don’t tend to appreciate this approach. We find it crass and offensive and we start watching with interest for the inevitable moment when the chair you’re standing on breaks and you come tumbling down, in a flash of colour, like a shot pheasant falling out of the early winter sky.

    The live communications agencies in the UK, according to new-kid-in-town inVNT, are “nervous... complacent... timid... lifeless... stale and sleepy”. This very fresh-faced US agency – it’s only four years old - has been “biding its time” to enter the UK market and to offer its “strategic, creative solutions that are compelling, disruptive and cut through the clutter”.

    All sounds a bit too superhero-at-the-party to me.
