Surge in discounted meeting space during Olympics

27/06/2012

London venues are experiencing a surge in discounted rates during the Olympics, according to venue finding company, ConferencesGroup.

The company – which is the umbrella brand for venue finding services Conferences-UK.org.uk, ConferencesVenues.com and CorporateDesk – has found during the summer months some four-star properties are offering room hire for as low as £100, with savings of up to 80 per cent.

Simon Thompson, director and co-founder of ConferencesGroup, believes there are a number of contributing factors to the offers.
He said: “Firstly, the hype that has surrounded the Olympics has heightened perception that companies looking for meeting space during this time would be priced out of London. In actual fact, since accommodation is naturally in greatest demand, mostly booked up by those attending the games, hotels are now finding they are unable to offer residential conferences but still have considerable day meeting space available.”

Thompson also said that concerns over traffic and congested transport links during this time have deterred many companies from considering London venues, and in some cases, events have been delayed until later in the year or alternative locations sought outside the capital.

“We have had a number of enquiries from companies looking to make the most of the competitive rates being offered. It’s a solution that suits all and for those savvy enough to think how they can use meeting space to their advantage in the coming weeks, there are some good deals to be had,” Thompson added.

Some very valid points here. We did find clients were asking for venues away from Olympic locations and caused a bit of controversy with our recent blog post http://www.hoteldesk.co.uk/posts/meetings-conferences-and-the-olympics/

Since then we have been inundated with great rates and offers from venues near the Olympic locations which are very attractive to our clients. We've come a complete circle within 48 hours all down to a blog post!
