Golfers tee up £1,600 charity donation at HBAA golf classic

04/07/2012

More than 70 event professionals helped celebrate the Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA)’s 10th annual golf classic, which was held at the Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate, on 28 June.

Nine golf teams enjoyed the 18-hole course, despite less than perfect weather. The ‘Best Team of the Day’ prize went to Andrew May, national account director, De Vere Group; Alex Armstrong from FCM Travel Solutions; John Atkins and Dave White from International SOS. ‘Best Individual of the Day’ went to Will Helsby, director of sales GB for Best Western. Perhaps David Griffin, director of golf, leisure and spa at Heythrop Park Resort, Oxfordshire, had a professional advantage when it came to winning the Longest Drive award, but he had to share the accolade with Justin Cole, commercial director of BSI. The ‘Nearest the Pin’ prize went to Mark Hoyland, general manager from Mercure Wetherby. ‘Overall Team Winners’ of the Activities Award were Liz Devaney from IHG, Natalie McGuire from Cedar Court Grand Hotel & Spa, Phil Allsopp from Lea Marston Hotel and Chris Carr from Accor.

For the non-golfers, Off Limits Corporate Events helped organise activities such as crossbow archery and dirt buggy and 4x4 off-road driving. The day ended with networking, dinner and an auction that helped raise £1,600 for the chairman's chosen charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

Chris Peacock, chair of the HBAA, said: “Delivering key events to our members is a prerequisite for the Association, and we look forward to our next major event, the HBAA Annual Forum 6th – 7th September 2012 at the Radisson Blue, Stansted Airport.”
