Getting ready to celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre (SCEC) is already in party mode, announcing that in the financial year 2011/12 it won a record 14 industry awards.
The awards span the event industry, including nods towards banquets and catering, audiovisual services, corporate social responsibility, education and green initiatives. It also won the Special Events Society’s (ISES) Esprit Award.
Ton van Amerongen, SCEC’s chief executive, said: “It is wonderful to see [the centre’s] efforts acknowledged both internationally and locally, particularly in our key services of venue management, food and beverage and creative technical production.”
Overall, the SECC has 30 rooms and includes an auditorium seating 3,500 people and six exhibition halls covering 30,000 sqm, among other spaces. The New South Wales government announced in 2011 that a new, larger convention centre would be built in Darling Harbour, with work beginning at the end of 2013.
