Glasgows duo launch Mammoth Events

04/09/2012

Former Glasgows employees Amanda Gilmour and George Thompson have gone out on their own with new start up Mammoth Events, which will focus on conferences, awards ceremonies, launches and exhibitions. Mammoth Events’ business model includes remote working for all staff on cloud-based systems, utilising specialist freelancers and production companies.

Gilmour was formerly business development manager at Preston-based agency Glasgows, with Thompson formerly head of business development. The duo also previously worked together at events production company Comtec Presentations.

Thompson said: “With the UK falling even deeper into recession, we’re seeing budgets shrinking or even frozen, whilst expectations are ever increasing. We’ve examined the market, developments in communications and technology and with no historical baggage, we are in a position where we can do something very special. We’ve set modest targets for our first 12 months, but we’re already well ahead of plan. We’ve secured several key projects that will be delivered in the final quarter of 2012, and we've already produced a couple of brand activitations for a top-rated BBC TV programme."

Thompson added that Mammoth will be looking to recruit in early 2013.

Gilmour commented: “Between us we’ve produced events at the very highest level, including the launch of a nuclear submarine, the Trades Union Congress and the Turner Prize, so we know we have the experience and the connections to deliver.”
