The Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow has revealed its strongest year to date for conference and corporate events business, achieving a 17 per cent increase in turnover.

The venue also improved gross profits by 18 per cent on 2014/15 figures, after hosting 57 conferences and corporate events. Of these, 31 were national, European and international conferences.

Kathleen Warden, director of conferences, said: “This year has been yet another incredible year for the SECC, driven by a strong performance in the international conference sector, as well as with national association meetings and smaller corporate events too – which continue to be growth sectors for the business.

“I am extremely proud of our sales and delivery teams who are experts at what they do. They have built up outstanding relationships with their clients, always delivering an optimum level of service, which has undoubtedly played a key part in this success.”

The SECC invested in its health credentials last year, serving healthier menus that included low fat, low sugar and low alcohol options, and launching a scheme to provide free bikes to delegates, in collaboration with Nextbike.

These initiatives earned it an accreditation under the World Obesity Federation’s Healthy Venue Awards programme.

In addition, SECC expanded its offering in the small meetings market, with the launch of a new meetings package, ‘Wee Too’. This offers options for 50-500 delegates across its 17 conference rooms.
