US-based Hurwitz passes away after a fierce fight against cancer

Incentive travel figure Michael Hurwitz, who founded and chaired US company United Incentives, has died.

Hurwitz established United Incentives in the 1980s and was a key leader in the incentive travel market, lecturing extensively and also serving as SITE (Society of Incentive & Travel Executives) president in 1991. In his career he was named a Certified Incentive Travel Executive (CITE), the travel industry's highest recognition.

He died last week after a fierce fight against cancer.

Hurwitz's colleague and president of United Incentives, Jeff Broudy, said in a tribute: "Michael's energy, humour, and dedication to his passions leave us with many profound, funny and beautiful memories. From his role professionalising the incentive industry with his leadership of SITE, counselling the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, his participation in numerous industry advisory boards, to the hundreds of thousands, or as he would often say “six figures”, of smiles left on the faces of clients, Michael loved sharing those joys.

"His legacy includes a strong United Incentives and a team of people who share his passion for excellence and commitment to exceeding expectations. We will all miss him and hope the next time you experience a great incentive event you’ll think of him fondly."

Hurwitz is survived by his wife Susan, two children and six grandsons.
