MCI’s Scandinavian arm has announced the acquisition of Swedish corporate event management company Initiativ.

The acquisition reflects MCI Nordics’ current growth strategy as it looks to double its consulting services to the local market by 2020.

Trine Steffensen, new MD of MCI Nordics, said: “We are excited to welcome Initiativ to our growing team; this acquisition confirms our company’s leading position within the local MICE market and is directly associated with our vision of expanding and strengthening our presence in the Nordics as we are aiming at doubling the size of our local operations by 2020.”

Former owners of Initiativ, Jonas Jonsson and Claes Johan Larsson, will continue as director of corporate events and account director at MCI Nordics.

In a joint statement, they said: “We are incredibly proud and very happy to be part of MCI, one of Europe’s largest congress and event organizers, and to have access to their global network, experience and numerous competences. To us at Initiativ, and not least to our clients, this will add a completely new dimension and enhanced opportunities for creating even better business results and relations through meetings and events.”
It’s MCI Nordics’ second big acquisition in the region in six months following the purchase of Danish business ICS in June.

The most notable milestone to date for the Scandinavian branch has been the successful accommodation coordination for more than 13,000 people across 17 hotels for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest held in May in Stockholm.
