Only three out of 10 women in the event industry feel they have been treated equally to men in terms of salary, according to new research.

And only four out of 10 believe they have the same career opportunities as men in the industry.

The research, carried out by IMEX Group and two German trade publications, polled more than 3,000 women from across the global industry on International Women’s Day.

The results also show that 78 per cent of women don’t care if their boss is a man or a woman, saying it all depends on who is the best person for the role. However, 64 per cent are convinced that the industry needs more female leadership, including one respondent who said: “Diversity is good for the society and any organization, any conference.”

Career breaks due to maternity leave are the greatest handicap to a woman’s ability to progress in her career according to 59 per cent of respondents. And 55 per cent of those surveyed said that there was or will be a point in time at which they had to or will have to make a choice between family and career.
