Ray Bloom has been presented with the Industry Leader Award at Meeting Professionals International’s World Education Congress in Las Vegas.

The award was made at the President’s Dinner, where industry executives, leaders, members and friends gathered to honour the IMEX Group founder and president and his lasting impact on incentive travel, meetings and events.

Bloom said: “I am truly humbled tonight. This is about the IMEX team, their work ethic and dedication. I really think they should be receiving this award tonight so I will accept it for them. I am very, very humbled.”

Bloom’s long-time friends Roger Tondeur, president of MCI Group, and Fay Beauchine, president of Brojure, gave personal tributes to Bloom, while there were video tributes from his wife Claudine, daughter Carina Bauer, IMEX Group chief executive, and Patrick Delaney, managing partner at SoolNua.

In his tribute, Delaney said: “We’ve known each other a long time. I’m thinking back to the first show back in the mid-80s and you might even admit it wasn’t at first a major success, and yet, typical you, you stayed with the vision, you stayed with the relationships and kept them going. That’s something I’ve always admired about you.

“You’re someone whose vision, whose friendship and whose support has never wavered and we really appreciate it.”

Hosted by MPI president and CEO Paul Van Deventer, the President’s Dinner also recognised the outgoing MPI chapter presidents, members of the MPI International Board of Directors (IBOD) and MPI Foundation Global Board of Trustees and former IBOD chair Fiona Pelham, who served in 2016.

The Industry Leader Award, established in 2015, recognises individuals who have made a lasting and positive impact on MPI and the community. Previous winners include Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, and Michael Dominguez of MGM Resorts, who also was honoured this year at WEC with the Chair’s Award.
