Fay Sharpe has been recognised for her mentoring work after being shortlisted for ‘Mentor of the Year’ at the Shine Awards.

The nomination marks Sharpe's longstanding ambition to champion future female talent through building confidence, empowerment and up-skilling. Her programme, Fast Forward 15, is now in its third year and helps develop fifteen aspiring female leaders each year from across the hospitality industry.

In addition to creating Fast Forward 15, Fay has been a longstanding advocate for female parity in the workplace; her work at Zibrant resulted in the company being named by The Times as one of 50 of the UK's top employers for women. She has also been instrumental in raising awareness and tackling the gender pay gap in the events sector.

After Zibrant was acquired by BCD Meetings & Events in 2016, Fay's focus on future talent and gender equality has been rolled out across Europe as an organisational best practice.

Fay Sharpe, vice president of marketing for BCD Meetings & Events, said: "I'm humbled to be in the running for such a prestigious award. They are held in huge esteem and no matter who wins the category, I believe we all have understood our responsibility to encourage and nurture the next generation of leaders."

Nigel Cooper, MD EMEA BCD Meetings & Events, said: "It is fantastic that Fay’s work and determination has been recognised. She conceived and created Fast Forward 15 and, through her network, she helps to nurture and progress every single mentee. Her work has had a considerable impact on her own personal time, but knowing Fay, she has relished every minute and this nomination will without doubt be cherished."

The Shine Awards celebrate the unique skills and contributions that women, and those who support their career progression, bring to the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism industry.
