Smartphones key to business travel satisfaction

CWT Connected Traveller Study reveals 80 per cent of business travellers rely on smartphone, but carry on average four devices with them

Business travellers carry four different devices to remain connected while on the road, and find it easier to book corporate travel than they do leisure travel.


Those are some of the findings from Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), in CWT Connected Traveller Study, which also found the majority (56 per cent) travel for conferences and industry events.


While on the road, the smartphone was nominated by 80 per cent of respondents as the one device they can't live without. Almost half (45 per cent) said booking corporate trips was easier than leisure (19 per cent).


The results come after a survey of more than 1,900 business travellers from across the world.


Simon Nowroz, chief marketing officer, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, said: "The business traveller can be so much more productive than even five years ago thanks to technology. Think about the advances where a business traveller used to have so much down time between a flight, taxi and hotel. Now, they can login and work while on the plane or wherever they happen to be. With the continued emergence of the tablet, as well as numerous apps, travellers don’t feel out of touch as they carry out business."


Overall, two-thirds (67 per cent) of travellers believe travel is safer today, although nearly half (46 per cent) were still concerned about their safety. This has led more travellers (68 per cent) to "sometimes or always" purchase travel insurance.


Compared to peers across Europe, UK travellers (79 per cent) were likely to remain connected with more. And more than half (53 per cent) opted to make their visit as short as possible so they can get home; 16 per cent higher than the regional average.
