Commission, account management the themes at mia Agents Day

Agents offer views during Q&A session at biannual event, which took place at Robinson College, Cambridge

Almost 20 UK booking agents were quizzed on issues such as commission and general account management as part of the Meetings Industry Association's (mia) latest Agents Day.


The biannual event welcomed more than 85 delegates, which started with delegates quizzing the agents - representing agencies such as Primary Live, HRG, Inntel and Helmsbriscoe - on modern challenges. Questions included whether there is still a place for increased commission and how could independent venues stand out from the crowd, while future predictions were discussed, such as the trend of using WiFi and interactive technology.


After the Q&A session, delegates networked with the agents over lunch, before the group took part in a treasure hunt provided by Live the City. The event, taking place on 30 August, concluded with drinks reception and prize giving.


Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: "We were delighted that the latest Agents Day was another huge success as the format allows those attending the chance to engage and understand the mutual challenges and encourages more cohesive relationships in the future. The mia team constantly strives to improve its events programme and next year we will be taking these events to a different level. We want to increase the networking time and improve the promotion of knowledge and best practice even further."
