GL events has launched a cross-industry research project on sustainability in UK events.

The initiative is the result of the company’s observation of a growing agenda of sustainability, particularly among its corporate customers and throughout the event production supply chain.

The aim of the research is to better understand the status of sustainability on event organisers’ agendas. It will also aim to ascertain the sources of the pressures and motivations to address sustainability issues, and the values of individuals and businesses. Finally, the research will gauge whether sustainability is rising, falling, or otherwise on the industry’s agenda.

“This is a really important piece of research, not least amongst our corporate customers,” said Rachel Baker, GL events UK group marketing manager. “Sustainability matters increasingly occupy a more prominent and specific role in our clients’ briefs and invitations to tender. The topic is clearly much more than a box ticking exercise.

“One of the things we want to establish through this research is an understanding of the commitment, long term, that the industry is prepared to invest in its own sustainability.”

The research is being carried out as part of GL events' partnership with the Event Production Show later this month. GL events will survey opinions from throughout the industry in the run up to the show, where it will canvas opinion among visitors to its stand. Following the show, the company will publish a white paper, sharing the findings of its research in order to advance the wider industry discussion.
