The Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) is launching a new strategy group focused on the conference, meetings and events industry.

GTMC has created the new group in recognition of a growing trend towards businesses’ total travel management requirements being consolidated under one roof; a move that has resulted in an upsurge in travel management companies (TMCs) expanding their remit to become major players in the conference meetings and events sector.

Adrian Parkes, CEO of the GTMC, said: “At a time when TMCs are actively increasing their penetration and expertise in the MICE market and more companies are moving towards consolidating their total travel spend, it’s important to present a unified voice on the biggest trends and challenges facing this area of business travel.

“I therefore look forward to working closely alongside our partners and members to ensure GTMC’s new conference, meetings and events strategy group makes headway in inspiring positive change and clear direction in this area.”

The announcement follows recent industry forecasts that two thirds of all travel, meetings and events programmes will be fully consolidated by 2019, a prediction which follows the growing shift in North America for all three elements to be combined.

The newly-created conference, meetings and events strategy group will become GTMC’s seventh strategy group, sitting alongside ones dedicated to air, hotel and apartment, payments, finance and industry affairs, people, surface transportation and technology. Part of its objective will be to provide thought leadership from the sector’s leading specialists, review changes affecting the way conferences, meetings and events are managed and share best practice.
