More than 100 global buyers from across Europe and North America experienced the best of Britain’s events industry, during VisitBritain’s MeetGB event held in London last week.

The two-day event showcased why the UK should be the destination of choice for conferences, meetings and incentives. It saw more than 6,700 one-to-one business meetings take place between UK conference product suppliers and international event planners.

VisitBritain/VisitEngland chief executive Sally Balcombe said: “It has been wonderful to hear such positive feedback from international event planners and buyers who have been inspired and excited by what they have discovered about the UK during MeetGB. The pre-event trips served as an unbeatable showcase for the high-quality business events product across the UK. Our exhibitors were equally enthusiastic, with many reporting a number of very strong business leads as a result of meetings that took place at MeetGB.

“Global buyers will be returning home in no doubt as to the outstanding facilities and products on offer across the UK.”

Ahead of the event at Hilton London Bankside, the buyers attended educational visits across the UK and experienced first-hand the variety of conference and event facilities, with destinations showcasing their meetings and incentives experiences, infrastructure and accessibility. From Aberdeen to Brighton, the buyers saw the best Britain has to offer in venues, food, hotels and attractions and more.

US-based Jennifer Summers, regional director of sales at Prestige Global Meeting Source, said: “I am always looking for new venues, destinations and ideas to share with my clients and so my educational trip to Shakespeare’s England was a great way to start the event. I was surprised and excited by the range of venues available and especially to see venues that have such a rich history. I’ve had some excellent meetings at MeetGB and have learnt so much more than I expected about the breadth of the opportunities in the UK – I was particularly excited to meet some hotel groups that were new to me.”

Switzerland-based Perry Gil-ran, senior account manager at Kenes, said: “MeetGB was an excellent event. I met with a great range of venues and destinations, including some that I hadn’t known beforehand. The meetings I had were very useful and I plan to bring more business to the UK in the very near future.”
