Nominations have opened for the Meeting Industry Association’s (mia) 2018 student Conference and Event Management Awards.

As part of the trade association’s continued strategy to attract and retain staff and promote best practice in the sector, the mia is offering educational institutions the chance to nominate their highest performing conference and event management undergraduates and postgraduates for the prestigious awards.

Jane Longhurst, chief executive of the mia, said: “As the leading association in the meetings and events industry we are committed to promoting best practice and identifying ‘stand out’ individuals and attracting and retaining talent in the sector.

“Our miaList plays a huge part in highlighting the outstanding capabilities of outstanding individuals currently working in the industry but it’s also crucial to recognise and highlight those exceptional candidates at the beginning of their careers to help secure the future of the industry. We hope these awards will show the next generation that their contribution and enthusiasm for the sector is welcomed and appreciated.”

Designed to recognise the talent and excellence of those about to embark on a career in the sector, course tutors can nominate their students for either the ‘One to Watch’ or ‘Outstanding’ titles.

The ‘One to Watch’ accolade will recognise an undergraduate and a postgraduate who have performed at a level beyond their contemporaries and display exceptional understanding of the industry. They will receive a £250 voucher to attend a wide range of professional development events offered by the mia as well as a framed certificate.

Those achieving an ‘Outstanding Undergraduate’ or ‘Outstanding Graduate’ title will also receive a £250 voucher as well as a framed certificate to highlight their talent and potential for an extremely bright future. They will also be invited to the annual miaList awards with their course leader/tutor to receive their award and receive a number of free places to attend future mia events as part of their ongoing professional development.

The mia student Conference and Event Management Awards are open to anyone who has completed a BA, BSc or MA or MSc. Educational institutions are invited to submit nominations for the undergraduate award and post-graduate award by 30 September 2018.

Nomination forms can be received by emailing GM Rose McDonald rosem@mia-uk.org
