Nick de Bois has stepped down as chair of the Events Industry Board (EIB) to take up a new role in the government's Brexit department.

The former Conservative MP and MD of Rapiergroup has accepted the role of chief of staff to newly-appointed Brexit secretary Dominic Raab in the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU).

De Bois, a prominent leave campaigner in the EU referendum, said: “At such an important time in our countries future it was impossible for me to turn down the opportunity to work with the Secretary of State for Exiting the Union as his chief of staff. Unfortunately that makes it impossible for me to continue as chairman of the Events Industry Board, a time I have thoroughly enjoyed since the board was first set up in late 2015.”

It is not yet known who will replace De Bois as chair of the EIB.

The EIB was set up as a result of the government’s Business Visits and Events Strategy, published in March 2015. The board works with government on fulfilling the commitments within the strategy and is composed of individuals and representative organisations from the events industry.
