Peter de Savary unveils new luxury venues
Peter de Savary, the man behind Scotland’s famous Carnegie Club at Skibo castle and London’s St James Club, has launched two new properties in the UK and America.
The Cary Arms is a boutique hotel on Babbacombe Beach in Torquay, Devon. The inn, which was built in the late 1800s, has been completely renovated by de Savary’s wife Lana and now sports a ‘New England’ nautical style. It offers just eight guest rooms all with terrace or balcony, as well as three cottages, the largest sleeping eight.
Events space includes the residents’ lounge, barbecue terrace and a unique glass sphere ‘pod’ which seats four for exclusive dining. It also offers a small spa and a gastropub restaurant. Construction of a further six bedrooms, a meeting room for up to 40 people and conservatory garden room seating 30 starts in September. The property, which has just been awarded five AA star status, is available for exclusive use.
“Sunseeker are holding a rally here in May and will have a barbecue on the lower terrace,” said sales and marketing manager Jo Di-Carlo. “Boats can come in and moor here and we are just putting together a corporate boat ride package.”
The venue can also be used in conjunction with the nearby Riviera Conference Centre, which intends to put it forward for accommodating senior management attending conferences.
Meanwhile, in the US, property tycoon de Savary has launched Vanderbilt Hall, an all-suite hotel in Newport Rhode Island. It has 33 suites and homely meeting space for up to 50 delegates theatre-style. Teambuilding activities include cooking competitions and boat racing.
He will also shortly unveil a five-star hotel in Port Louis, Grenada, where he is overseeing a $500m (£319m) residential and leisure development.
