Alton Towers Resort is taking team building to the treetops, after unveiling its latest package to get delegates into the great outdoors.

The Enchanted Forest Tree Top Quest, a high ropes course set among the trees, has been created following new research that demonstrates the benefits of nature and the outdoors on energy and productivity levels.

Set among the trees, the package gives delegates an opportunity to bond with colleagues as they participate in a series of obstacles including transverse nets, swing tyres, stepping stones, zip wire and tunnel.

The package has been designed following experimental psychology studies, which link exposure to nature with increased energy.

Studies published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology suggest that the outdoors helps to ward off feelings of exhaustion; 90 per cent of people reported increased energy when placed in outdoor activities.

"Nature is fuel for the soul," said Richard Ryan, researcher and professor of psychology at the University of Rochester.

"Often when we feel depleted we reach for a cup of coffee, but research suggests a better way to get energised is to connect with nature. Nature is something within which we flourish, so having it be more a part of our lives is critical, especially when we live and work in built environments."
