HBAA has split its Technology, Innovation and Sustainability committee for an increased focus.

The business advisory association for agents and venues, formerly known as Hotel Booking Agents' Association, says the move is to acknowledge the growing importance of technology and innovation in events. Caleb Parker, the CEO of meetingrooms.com will head up the new committee. Sustainability will form its own committee.

The T&I group will support the HBAA's Back to Basics initiative, by driving communication between association members and creating awareness of new tech and innovation within the industry.

Parker said: "I’m honoured to serve the association as chair of the Technology and Innovation committee. The HBAA represents experts within our hospitality industry. As experts we must always remain on the cutting edge, constantly ask tough questions and challenge the status quo. The T&I committee will ensure members are on top of the latest trends, tech and innovation that can improve business and deliver better customer experiences.”

The committees objectives for 2016 and beyond include launching a new HBAA website to represent the "professionalism and high quality of the association’s membership". The committee is also looking to recruit tech experts to educate and inspire at member meetings.

HBAA chair Leigh Cowlishaw, director of supplier partnerships at Capita Travel and Events, said: “Technology and Innovation have become such an integral part of our activities, and we see this as only increasing in the years to come.”
