VisitScotland has
launched a new virtual reality app, ScotlandVR, allowing users to view the
Scottish landscape in a virtual travel experience.
The app has been the
result of the 2016 Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, which saw
VisitScotland challenge young talent from Scotland's academia to create an
exciting, interactive digital product to motivate people to travel to Scotland.
The final ScotlandVR
app was based on the winning entry, a team from Edinburgh Napier University,
who developed the concept for an app to explore a virtual Scotland. ScotlandVR
was created by Edinburgh-based digital and creative agency Whitespace in association
with VisitScotland and Edinburgh Napier University.
Dr Oli Mival, who
worked on the Scotland VR app, was a recent contributor to INNOVATEROBOTICS,
the latest event in the series. He said: "Being part of the ScotlandVR
project has been hugely enjoyable for our team at Edinburgh Napier, and a great
experience working with VisitScotland and Whitespace. The app is a result of
the collaborative effort between Scottish academic, technology and tourism
sectors and is a real example of Scottish innovation.
"I was also
delighted to speak at INNOVATEROBOTICS recently, which provided an opportunity
to highlight some of the outstanding developments being pioneered right here in
Scotland and is a great forum for the sharing of ideas in our field and to foster
future collaboration."
