NEC in record 12 months with 156 exhibitions in 2016

Birmingham venue says relocated shows grow 17 per cent while launches grow 30 per cent in first three years

Birmingham’s NEC has claimed a record-breaking 12 months after hosting 156 exhibitions in 2016 with a 99 per cent retention rate of annual shows.


The venue says it is set to build on this for 2017, with several major launches already taken place including This Morning Live.


The NEC says its shows have enjoyed greater attendance rates as well, with relocated shows growing an average of 17 per cent in their first three outings at the NEC, while new launch events grew 30 per cent in their first three years.


Richard Mann, market development director for the NEC, said: "One of the most pleasing things about our new business wins is that they demonstrate our ability to deliver an audience across all sectors, whether trade or consumer.


"We are welcoming tech-based trade events like Channel Live in ICT, major consumer brands like Destination Star Trek relocating from London, plus new launches such as Commercial Kitchen. We then have the return to the NEC of shows like IPEX, and, of course, the big new adventure experience Dinosaurs in the Wild."


The NEC venue sales team has also expanded to continue to grow this area of the business.


David Gallagher and Louise Cash have been promoted to the roles senior business development manager and account manager, and a further two new account executives, Hannah Jones and Helaena Aston, have also joined the team.
