James Rees, executive director of ExCeL London, has launched a bid to become the next president of ICCA.

Rees is one of three candidates to replace Nina Freysen-Pretorius in the role and
has launched a website that outlines his campaign to become president.

He said: “ICCA has done a lot for me in both my professional and personal life. It has helped turn ExCeL from a national to an international business. On a personal level, I met my wife at ICCA in Shanghai in 2013 and we were married 14 months later.

“If anybody embodies the ICCA family, I can certainly lay claim to that, as it has done so much for me.”

He revealed that, if elected, he would use his time as president to help transform ICCA “to safeguard its culture, its values and to provide competitive advantage to all its members in whichever region of the globe they operate.”

He added: “I believe I have the passion, the experience and the commitment to lead the board of directors and support ICCA management to continue the growth and success of our great association. With the total support of my employers, my wife and family and by ICCA professionals from around the world including two past-presidents, I will dedicate my time and energy to ensure ICCA’s future is secure.”

The result of the vote will be revealed at November’s ICCA Congress in Dubai.
