A fifth of exhibitors increase floorspace at IMEX

IMEX chair Ray Bloom announces figures as trade show gets under way in Frankfurt

One-fifth of exhibitors have increased their stand space, while 40 new suppliers have come on board for this year's IMEX.

IMEX chairman Ray Bloom revealed the figures at the opening ceremony, and added there was a feeling of positivity among the industry.

"The demand to attend from hosted buyers has never been higher," he added.

"Overall there's plenty of opportunity to do business, network, meet new people and learn more about the latest trends.

"IMEX is the flagship event for the global MICE market."

More than 3,500 international and national exhibitors are attending the tradeshow from 150 countries.

He added: "The meetings industry is confident, but we also remain cautiously optimistic. (But) all signs are pointing to continued growth."

The two educational themes, 'Business is Personal' and the shared economy, were expected to attract significant interest.

David DuBois, immediate past chair of the Convention Industry Council, said the last week's inaugural Global Meetings Industry Day was a vital step to the better promotion of the meetings industry.

"When scientists, medics or technologists meet, they change the world. We are not self serving; business events exist to serve a higher purpose," he said.
