Airlines make life "hell" for business travellers, convention hears

Candid assessment from United CEO Oscar Munoz at the Global Business Travel Association’s annual convention

Risk, duty of care and technology’s impact on business travel dominated the discussions at the Global Business Travel Association’s (GBTA) 48th annual convention in Denver.

The five-day industry gathering brought together more than 6,500 travel professionals and industry leaders.

Featured speakers included United CEO Oscar Munoz, who offered a candid assessment of business travel.

“The airline industry has made travel hell for business travellers. We need to do better to improve the air travel experience. My goal is to show you can run a business with heart that also makes money for its investors.”

A discussion on the future of ground transportation looked at traditional concerns such as duty of care, fair wages for drivers and safety based on background checks, as well as the high demand and successful business model of ride-sharing services.
