Dubai has cemented its growing reputation as a meetings and incentive destination with record figures.

The Emirate’s convention bureau, Dubai Business Events, submitted a record 250 bids and proposals for events. It won 75 of those and among the most notable are the NuSkin South East Asia incentive group in 2017 and hosting the World Tunnelling Congress in 2018, the World Congress of Neurology in 2019 and the World Congress of Emergency Medicine in 2021. The NuSkin China incentive visited in 2014, bringing 14,500 attendees.

The bureau also has more than 100 conferences in the pipeline which are expected to be bid for through the Al Safeer Congress Ambassador programme.

Dubai’s concerted push in the sector is part of the emirate’s Tourism Vision for 2020, which aims to double the number of visitors from 10 million in 2012 to 20 million per year by 2020, when it hosts the World Expo.

Hamad Bin Mejren, senior vice president, Dubai Events and Convention Bureau, a Division of Dubai Tourism, said: “The combined efforts of DBE and its strategic partners, and the many initiatives we rolled out over the past 12 months allowed us to leave a strong footprint on international markets. 2015 has undoubtedly been a year of growth and success and we’ve made remarkable progress in cementing Dubai’s strong international reputation as a vibrant and diverse destination with great accessibility, first-class infrastructure and a dynamic business events offering.

We will continue to showcase the city and push the boundaries on the experiences available for visitors, building on the momentum of the UAE’s Year of Innovation to fully unleash the potential Dubai has in becoming a global knowledge hub, demonstrating the expertise and diverse industries that make up our city.”
