Pharma giant AstraZeneca has sold its in-house conference app to a US-based event tech developer.

The Conference Notes app, for use on iPads, is designed to promote engagement among attendees at medical conferences and was developed by AstraZeneca's Digital Innovation Group, a partnership between the UK-based drug maker and marketing tech agency DigitasLBi.

Core-apps, which has around 3 million users, will make the app available to a range of industries and will expand Conference Notes to iPhone and Android formats.

Organisations such as the American Heart Association have adopted a standalone version of the app, which gives delegates access to speakers' presentations and allows users to take notes and collaborate with each other.

Core-apps CEO Jay Tokosch said: “Even though there's some real complexity in life sciences meetings, other meetings will want the same types of engagement as well. If you can do the complicated medical shows and handle their content, you can do shows for anybody.”
