David Kemsley has been installed as MD at Avenue Events, and has set his sights on achieving £5 million turnover by 2020.

The agency, based in Surrey, plans to strengthen its full service event offering as it expands from its traditional venue finding background, with the new MD aiming for a 50 per cent increase in turnover in his first year at the helm. Avenue Events founder Helene Kemsley, who set up the agency in 1996, has now moved into a part time consultant director position.

Currently servicing clients in sectors such as tech and gaming (which makes up around half of the client business), David Kemsley says providing increased full service event management offers greater growth opportunities than solely venue finding, with growth coming primarily from existing accounts.

“We have a vision, which is to be recognised as the leading boutique provider of live events,” he said. “We started out in venue finding, and our main objective now is to strengthen the full service capabilities.”

Avenue employs 10 staff at present and plans to recruit two new account managers to grow turnover to £1.5m this year. The ultimate aim is to become a ‘£5m business’.

“It’s a more aggressive growth strategy,” David Kemsley added.

Helene Kemsley added: “This role demands vibrancy, energy and determination; David is ideally suited to take the reins. I will continue to support the business as director consultant – I still have a real passion for the industry so you won’t get rid of me that quickly.”
