Six Portsmouth venues and facilities are set to receive £1 million in improvements after the city council awarded cultural trust BH Live a 10-year contract to manage the venues.

Mountbatten Leisure Centre, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre, Portsmouth Tennis Centre, Eastney Swimming Pool, Wimbledon Park Sports Centre and Charter Community Sports Centre are all in line to receive the refurbishments - such as improved retail hospitality and upgrades to public areas - which will be rolled out in phases.

A spokesperson said BH Live would be considering  "how best to improve the venues’ multi-functional spaces so they can be used for a range of events aimed at both business and leisure audiences".

Peter Gunn, BH Live’s chief executive, said: "Improving the health and wellbeing of communities, promoting major events and boosting sports development are high on our agenda, as is improving the overall quality of services, supporting the local economy and contributing to environmental improvements."

BH Live already manages Bournemouth International Centre and Bournemouth Pavilion, as well as the retail and event catering service at London Aquatic Centre and event catering service at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in partnership with GLL.

Cllr Linda Symes, Portsmouth City Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure & Sport, said: "This is an exciting move for the city and will reinvigorate the six centres involved, with some big plans to invest in the sites and improve the facilities."
