Birmingham's new event space, the Vox Conference Centre celebrated its official opening with a bang, hosting 200 guests for One Big Night on Thursday.

The centre, which held its first event September last year, pulled out all stops for the gala dinner, which included a five-course menu, entertainment and an after-party at the adjoining High Line Late Lounge.

The celebrations also coincided with the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham's 25th anniversary.

Vox MD Nick Waight revealed that £10 million worth of refurbishment and maintenance was being carried out to continually update the ICC.

"Tonight marks 25 years of the ICC and also the launch of our new Vox Conference Centre," he said.

"We've got a lot of work going on. By March we will have installed a complete new Wi-Fi system costing almost £250k; we're investing in the halls including amenities and toilets.

"We're trying to make sure the product we have is fit for the future. Tonight is about celebrating the past but it's also about celebrating the future."

The Vox Conference Centre is part of the larger Resorts World Birmingham, located adjacent to Genting Arena on the NEC campus, and includes a four-star hotel, casino and restaurants.

Since opening, the conference centre has hosted almost 50 conferences and events.

Waight also thanked the 200 guests, along with the staff that operate the venues. "It's great to have the fantastic venues and technology, but without the people that operates them it would be nothing."
