The impact of Brexit on the meetings industry and staff recruitment are two themes that will be covered at this year's ibtm world in Barcelona.

Five topics for the 2016 education programme have been launched following 10 months of consultation and research with international buyers and suppliers, and will take place in the form of workshops, debates and presentations.

The discussions around Brexit will look at the issue from the Europe and UK-facing sides, as well as implications from others around the world. Sessions on staff recruitment and retention, along with professional development, will explore issues relating to work-life balance and inspirational leadership techniques. The other three themes include safety, security and risk management, innovation, disruption and technology and client engagement.

Graeme Barnett, ibtm world senior exhibition director, said: "We want the industry to lead the way for this year’s programme as there are so many topics which clearly affect their business lives on a day to day basis. We have now aggregated that research and have created an innovative, immersive conference programme inspired by those who will be attending ibtm world 2016."

This year's ibtm world takes place at Barcelona on 29 November to 1 December 2016.
