CWT Meetings & Events live event business up 75 per cent

Strategic meetings management focus and marked increase in incentive business underpins 19 per cent regional growth

The UK and Ireland arm of CWT Meetings & Events saw live events business soar by 74 per cent in 2015 as the wider EMEA region reported strong revenue growth.

CWT Meetings & Events’s global revenues increased by 12 per cent last year, reported by the company last month but that performance was outstripped by the regional figures of 19 per cent, said Ian Cummings, MD of the UK and Ireland and EMEA regions.

Cummings said that a move towards consolidating travel programmes with a strategic meetings management (SMM) programme from clients across the division combined with repeat business led to the revenue boost.

“Growing our live events and SMM won us great results in 2015 but we are also aware that our clients keep coming back to us for our strong core propositions on safety and security, flexible global technology solutions and ability to drive savings for managed programmes.”

The agency has also noted a huge upturn in incentive travel, largely driven by repeat business, Cummings said. 

“Budgets have really come back on the events side,” he said. “Business in general is a lot more buoyant and people are striving for growth. We have seen big events, with more people being held closer to home. Instead of taking 20 people to an exotic destination they want something in the UK and to have more people feel part of it, and spend more money on the event itself.”

The agency has grown incentive business from an almost standing start, with groups taken to destinations such as Monaco, Chicago, Singapore and Thailand in 2015. “The thread that runs through is that clients want something extraordinary. That’s the great challenge for us.”

Last month CWT Meetings & Events also announced nine new hires, including new head of events Jack Marfleet and SMM operations manager Stephen Lusher.
