Cambridge college sees 23 per cent rise in bookings

Murray Edwards College expands team by five to cater for increased business

Investment in Audio Visual facilities and expertise has been attributed to a 23 per cent increase in conferences and events at Cambridge University's Murray Edwards College over the last 2 years.


The rise in business, particularly in day meetings and for its Summer Schools, has seen the team expand to create five new roles, including AV technician, marketing and events officer, events administrator and catering supervisor.


Chris Pope, general manager of residences, conferences and catering, said: “This is a great team effort – we are delighted to see our conference and events business increase and a high level of repeat bookings from clients. Feedback shows that they appreciate our two conference centres – Buckingham House and The Kaetsu Centre – as well as our on-site car parking and knowledgeable and friendly team of staff. 


“Unquestionably investing in our AV facilities has paid off and the appointment of Lorraine Wales as AV Technician, with her in-depth expertise and experience, has improved client confidence. The new members of our team have both College and commercial events experience which has undoubtedly raised the professionalism of our operation. Together we have also worked hard to balance the primary function of the college while selling our events facilities year-round.”
