An intensive boot camp at International Confex will aim to prepare more event planners for Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) accreditation.

The UK & Ireland chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is championing the accreditation, which is widely-recognised around the world, but has little take up in the UK. It began a series of boot camps two years ago in a bid to boost numbers, and the training programme will be delivered live on the show floor at Confex, held at Olympia from 2-3 March.

Jackie Mulligan, VP education for MPI UK and Ireland, said: “Our training designers have intensified the two day Boot Camp so that the ten knowledge domains critical for achieving Certified Meeting Professional status are delivered in a shorter time and during a live show. This means participants can combine their professional development with business and their learning with live behind-the-scenes interaction.”

CWT Meetings and Events operations manager Katherine Bell was among the first attendees at the chapter’s inaugural boot camp. She added: “The qualification gives you a level of credibility in the industry and exposes you to all areas of event management. I’d recommend the CMP to anyone who likes a challenge and is looking to expand their knowledge in events. It is the only global certification available so it is worthwhile having on your CV.”

The CMP has been awarded to 10,000 event planners in 55 countries, and is administered and assessed by the Convention industry Council.
