Mike Closier has stepped down as executive deputy chairman of the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC).
Amid warm tributes from Sir Ian Grant, chairman of the SECC, Closier departed to ‘seek other challenges and opportunities’. At the same time SECC appointed three new directors to the board.
Closier was the driving force behind the development of the Scottish Conference Centre (the ‘Armadillo’) and also led the planned redevelopment of the SECC site, the QD2 Project, to enable the construction of the Scottish National Arena.
Now, as the venue prepares for the new facility opening in 2013, Peter Duthie (commercial director), Ben Goedegebuure (sales director) and Billy McFadyen (finance director) are all appointed full board members.
Mr Grant said: “Peter, Ben and Billy have all delivered in their executive roles and this step both recognises their considerable contributions, and commits the company to a robust team that will ensure the Arena is successfully delivered and integrated into the business.”
The new board is in place with immediate effect.
