Copenhagen's hotel stock is set to reach a milestone in the next 18 months when room numbers near 25,000, as the city experiences a record year for conferences.

The Danish capital will benefit from the expansion of the Nimb Hotel, which will offer 20 new luxury suites and a roof terrace, as well as the new meetings and conference venue Charlottehaven, which will house 37 apartments.

It comes as Copenhagen welcomes more than 100,000 delegates in what it says will be a record year of business visits, for conferences such as the Forum of European Neuroscience (8,000 delegates), the Congress of the Society for Medicinal Plant Research (1,500 delegates), as well as Meeting Professionals International's (MPI) European Meetings & Event Conference (EMEC). Around 83,000 delegates attended events in the city in 2015.

Wonderful Copenhagen convention director Jonas Wilstrup said: "We have not only promoted the fact that Copenhagen offers all the ‘hardware’ needed to host international events but have also been pretty consistent in regards to the storytelling of Copenhagen as an innovative, sustainable metropolis with a high quality of life - a knowledge hub and a safe, green and friendly yet vibrant ‘smart city’."

Wilstrup said other initiatives included dedicating more resources to the convention team to bid for more events to the city; an ever-widening expansion of hotels and venues; and Copenhagen's strong economy.
