Corporate Innovations wins £1m of sport-related business

Agency prepares to deliver incentives designed around Rio Olympics and British Grand Prix Moto GP

Major sporting events including the Rio Olympics and British Grand Prix Moto GP have helped Corporate Innovations record its best ever H1 in the company's 22-year history.


The Banbury-based agency, with offices in London, says it has secured more than £1 million in business related to the sporting events, putting it 23 per cent ahead of 2015 in year on year comparisons.


Forthcoming projects include a reward programme at the Rio Games for The National Lottery operator Camelot, a brand activation for telematics organisation Octo at British Grand Prix Moto GP in September 2016 and an incentive for 200 partners of a communications company to coincide with the EURO 2016 European Football Championship in France.


Gareth Baldwin, group director of Corporate Innovations, which is part of integrated communication specialists CI Group, said: "These sporting events will see us to not only utilise our logistical expertise as part of Corporate Innovations, but also draw from our group creative, digital and communications (teams) to support the clients. And being global sporting events means we get wide exposure - it helps us grow our client base and gives our team really exciting projects to work on.


"All of this is helping us to continually grow the organisation and has certainly given us the best first two quarters of our trading in 22 years of business. It's fair to say that already this year we have written over £1 million of business using sport as the vehicle to support our clients.


"And from a growth perspective, Corporate Innovations is 23 per cent ahead of this time last year."


Baldwin was a former racing driver and football club chairman who established travel and corporate services agency Sports Line before joining CI Group. He said: "Sport is my passion so when you can combine your passion with your work it's always a really nice place to be."


Corporate Innovations was awarded the Camelot business after organising programmes for 2,000 of the company's corporate and consumer guests during the 2012 London Olympics. The next Olympic event will see them manage on-site logistics in Rio including accommodation and travel, as well as carry out all pre-communications.


Octo is also a repeat client, and signed up Corporate Innovations to grow its presence in the UK after the agency helped it launch its app Octo U at the 2015 British Grand Prix Moto GP. Corporate innovations will bring a team of 60 to manage the 2016 event in September, in a series of dinners, tours and other pieces of engagement to increase brand awareness among investors, sponsors and partners. The agency will also head a consumer-facing promotion, which will include a dedicated zone where visitors can learn about Octo U and win prizes.


The French incentive programme will see Corporate Innovations manage a high end itinerary for the communications client, which will include vintage car rallies and dining at top restaurants for 200 people. The group will also attend one of the Euro 2016 fixtures while in Paris.


Baldwin said the agency's ability to manage digital communications helped it to secure the business.

It enables us to build end-to-end solutions digitally, and manage all communications and logistics. These days everyone wants information to be on an app or website rather than printed format. Being able to provide that is one of the things that stands us apart for a lot of our clients. They know we can provide the physical support on location but also exceptional digital support by building bespoke apps and platforms for devices. This sort of engagement and measuring this activity features high on all our clients agendas."
