Former SITE president Patrick Delaney is to be inducted into the Convention Industry Council (CIC) 2016 Hall of Leaders.

And it’s a double celebration with daughter Aoife - current SITE president elect - who is also set to be honoured by the CIC with the 2016 Pacesetter Award.

In 1992 Patrick Delaney was elected to serve as the first SITE president from outside of North America. Having also served as president of SITE Foundation in 2001 he is credited with doing more than any other to build the brand of SITE beyond the borders of North America, which now encompasses 29 chapters around the world with 2000 members in 88 countries.

Nominating Patrick Delaney for the Hall of Leaders honour, SITE CEO Kevin Hinton said: “For over 34 years, Patrick has been a leading voice in and for the global events industry. Credited with innovations and leadership that have formed current leading practices amongst buyers, suppliers, intermediaries and end-users of all varieties, he has also maintained humility and a signature brand of humor as he has built a global network of friends, colleagues, clients mentees and students.”

Preparing to take office as the youngest ever president of SITE in 2017, Aoife Delaney is serving her fifth year on the SITE Board of Directors in addition to her role as director of global sales for Ovation Global DMC.

A SITE spokesman said: “She has a proven track record of successful leadership including, but not limited to, stewardship for the SITE Young Leaders program that has experienced consistent growth over the past six years. Her vision was to create a thriving “community within” SITE specifically to provide access to jobs for new entrants as well as “safe space” to build critical and deep relationships before the interview. Aoife’s foresight has set the foundation for tomorrow’s leadership in the incentive travel industry.”

The CIC will be celebrating the award winners on Tuesday 18 October at the 2016 Hall of Leaders and Pacesetter Awards Celebration during IMEX America in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Karen Kotowski, CEO of the Convention Industry Council, said: “CIC is excited to announce the latest exceptional class of Hall of Leaders and Pacesetter Award inductees. This event is truly a unique and extraordinary evening honoring iconic leaders and future stars. We look forward to celebrating their unique talents and contributions and are excited to continue to do so in collaboration with IMEX America’s growing success.”
