Designing interesting meeting spaces without sacrificing return on investment (ROI) was a headline discussion point at the latest Eventopedia VIP event.

The event, held at Andaz London Liverpool Street, focused on the future of meetings in the context of hotel design, and featured Manuela Mannino (partner at The Hickson Design Partnership) and Afroditi Krassa (branding and interior designer) as guest speakers.

Mannino told the audience that delegates don't relate to complex or technical spaces and said all projects should be approached with authenticity, meaning and innovation.

When it comes to hotels, Mannino pointed out that 70 per cent of managers want a co-working space in hotels, while another 70 per cent prefer to work in the hotel lobby.

She used Andaz Hotels as an example, saying all meeting rooms in the properties formed part of the guest experience, rather than being tucked away.

"The inter-connectivity between hotel and venue design, technology, brand and the consumer is a fascinating process which is fostering new and innovative collaborations and - ultimately - event spaces that add greater value to clients," said Eventopedia co-founder Alan Newton.

"Our future of hotel and venue design event was our fourth free event of the year and focussed upon storytelling, which is at the heart of what Eventopedia does. On the one side of the platform, we help event suppliers to tell their brand stories in an informative and immersive way, and on the other, we help event planners connect directly, quicker and more effectively with the most appropriate event suppliers."

Eventopedia also held an event for its investors on Tuesday evening, at Berry Bros & Rudd in St James, where Newton and business partner Toby Heelis covered the company's first year in operation and spoke about their vision.
