A £200 million refurbishment of the Turnberry Resort could be halted if Donald Trump is banned from the UK.

Parliament is set to debate a petition calling on the government to deny the front runner for US Republican presidential candidate, following his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States in the wake of the terror attacks in Paris in November.

Now, The Trump Organization, which is investing more than £200m into the South Ayrshire hotel and resort has told US media that all work could be cancelled if the UK barred him.

A statement said that any action “would force The Trump Organization to immediately end these and all future investments we are currently contemplating in the United Kingdom.”

Trump Turnberry is expected to reopen on 1 June following the refurbishment of all hotel bedrooms, existing meeting space and public areas and the addition of a new, 500 capacity ballroom - The Donald J Trump Ballroom.
